REHAB IN THE UK
Rehab Facilities at the Provy
Ever since opening in 1996, The Providence Projects has fondly been referred to as “The Provy”.
When The Provy opened its doors to clients, the founders, Steve Spiegel and Dr Peter Turnbull agreed on a core set of principles which would shape life at The Provy. At the heart of these principles were to ensure that all clients were treated with love, kindness, dignity and respect.
We took the opportunity at a recent annual reunion to ask some of our ex-clients about their experience of Life at The Provy.
It is quite difficult to put into words, the miracles that happen. Life at The Provy can of course be challenging and emotional but this is greatly outweighed by the love, laughter and life as a result of the programme, the team and the wonderful friendships made.
Daily Life at our Luxury Rehab Facilities
The daily structure has been designed using a holistic approach encompassing both the necessary therapeutic elements but also a range of other interventions, ensuring that treatment is both effective and enjoyable at the same time.
The 7-day-a-week structured timetable incorporates a range of 1-1 and group work alongside workshops, activities and other therapies. The delivery of the therapy programme is regularly reviewed to ensure we take into account both the latest evidence as well as the feedback from our clients.

Where are our Rehab Facilities Located?
The Provy is situated just to the East of Bournemouth and just a few hundred yards from the 7 miles of golden sandy beaches. We are blessed that our drug and alcohol rehab facilities are located in such a beautiful part of the country, and being so close to the beach is a great place to start your recovery journey. We try to get down to the beach as often as we can to take in the beauty of our surroundings and connect with nature; walking along the beachfront is incredibly therapeutic in itself.
Shared Spaces at our Luxury Rehab Facilities
The connection made between housemates and peers is an important aspect of daily life at our inpatient centre. People from all walks of life come to us and make friendships that often last a lifetime. Of course, no one goes to rehab to make friends, but these friendships, the support given to one another, the camaraderie and the sense of community all contribute to the magical atmosphere at The Provy.
Following on from this, there is also a buddy system in place so that alongside your personal therapist, you will be assigned a buddy on the day you start who would have been with us a little while and will help you find your way around. After you’ve settled in, you’ll also have the chance to become a buddy yourself, supporting new clients who may be feeling nervous.

Getting to Know the Drug and Alcohol Rehab Facilities
When you arrive at The Provy, you will be greeted by one of our counsellors and a member of the support team who will complete your admission and induction. This will be finalised by our Doctor. Whilst you are being inducted, your bags will be taken to your bedroom for you.
All clients who attend a treatment programme at The Provy are provided with their own room. We’ve found that this takes away a lot of anxiety as in many centres clients may be expected to share bedrooms. The accommodation is very much home from home, and the house is equipped with full Wi-Fi, flat screen television and all required kitchenware and utensils.
Life at The Provy is about change. When you put the alcohol or the drugs down, change is essential to give yourself the best chance possible of a long-term recovery.
Therapy Settings and Rooms at our Luxury Rehab Facility
The daily therapeutic journey undertaken by all clients at The Provy spans from one-on-one counselling sessions to fun beach activities, from relapse prevention workshops to acupuncture sessions. It encompasses self-esteem-building sessions, consequences assignments, and the joy of laughter shared with peers, as well as delving into the exploration of self-defeating behaviours. With elements such as music therapy and challenging couple counselling sessions, each component contributes to making Life at The Provy a life-changing experience. It will be a roller coaster of emotions but it may well be the most important 4 weeks of your life.
All the rooms and outside areas of our rehab facilities are built with a client-first approach and focus on intuitive usability and ease of access.

I’ve been a client at Providence for over six months, experiencing a full spectrum of emotions, but the prevailing feeling has been a profound sense of connection and belonging. The atmosphere is one of love, unity, and genuine friendship. Regardless of which counselor you’re assigned to, all the staff are approachable and offer invaluable advice. Their unwavering knowledge and caring nature have genuinely saved my life. The entire Providence team, including clerical and support staff, has given me the strength and enthusiasm to apply what I’ve learned. As I leave, I’ll carry Providence in my heart and prayers forever. Thank you.

Providence has saved my life. When I arrived, I was physically, mentally, and emotionally drained; without this rehab, I’d be dead. They helped me rebuild my confidence and discover my true self. The counselors, especially Dougie, were incredibly understanding and crucial to my progress. After 12 weeks and now in aftercare, I finally know what I want for the first time in 24 years and am confident I’ll achieve my dreams. I highly recommend Providence to anyone seeking to overcome addiction. Even in aftercare, I miss Provi already and am deeply grateful. Thank you.

I can’t thank The Providence Project and its amazing team enough. What was supposed to be a four-week stay turned into six months because it was life-changing. As a single mother, leaving my daughter was hard, but it was worth it. The program helped me overcome my addiction to sleeping tablets and taught me valuable life skills, making me a better mother and person. This place gave me my life back and my daughter “a better mummy.” To any mother worried about treatment due to separation, it’s worth it—the benefits are priceless. Going to The Providence Project was the best decision I’ve made, and I’m forever grateful. Sarah x

I arrived at the Provy lost and broken after years of addiction and failed treatments, but something felt different here. From reception to support staff, everyone made me feel loved until I could love myself. For the first time, I received the help, knowledge, and tools I needed for lasting recovery. The unique approach, the supportive groups, and the house where I lived were crucial to my healing. Near death at the end of my addiction, I owe my life to Providence and my counselor, Clinton. Nearly two years clean and sober, I’m proud to be part of the Provy family, where the door is always open and the support is unwavering.

Providence has changed my life completely. From living a life with no hope, this place has taught my how to live again. The group therapy and 1-1 counselling really helped me to discover who I am and what I want from life, free from drugs and alcohol. The staff are excellent and I know I wouldn’t be where I am now without them. I’d recommend Providence to anyone who needs help. Give it a go and you won’t regret it.
