When The Provy opened its doors to clients, the founders, Steve Spiegel and Dr Peter Turnbull agreed on a core set of principles which would shape life at The Provy. At the heart of these principles were to ensure that all clients were treated with love, kindness, dignity and respect.

We took the opportunity at a recent annual reunion to ask some of our ex clients about their experience of Life at The Provy.

It really is quite difficult to put into words, the miracles that happen. Life at The Provy can of course be challenging and emotional but this is greatly outweighed by the love, laughter and life as a result of the programme, the team and the wonderful friendships made.

Daily Life at The Provy

The daily structure has been designed using a holistic approach encompassing both the necessary therapeutic elements but also a range of other interventions ensuring that treatment is both effective and enjoyable at the same time.

The 7 day a week structured timetable incorporates a range of 1-1 and group work alongside workshops, activities and other therapies. The delivery of the therapy programme is regularly reviewed to ensure we take into account both the latest evidence as well as the feedback from our clients.

I did rehab at Providence Projects. I had been to three private rehab centres but this was perfect. I had a life changing experience there.

Where Are We Located?
The Provy is situated just to the East of Bournemouth and just a few hundred yards from the 7 miles of golden sandy beaches. We are blessed to be located in such a beautiful part of the country and being so close to the beach is a great place to start your recovery journey. We try to get down to the beach as often as we can to take in the beauty of our surroundings and connect with nature; walking along the beachfront is incredibly therapeutic in itself.

Shared Spaces

The connection made between housemates and peers is an important aspect of daily life at our inpatient centre. People from all walks of life come to us and make friendships that often last a lifetime. Of course, no-one goes to rehab to make friends but these friendships, the support given to one another, the camaraderie and sense of community all contribute to magical atmosphere at The Provy. Following on from this, there is also a buddy system in place so that as well as your personal therapist, you will be assigned a buddy on the day you start who would have been with us a little while who will help you find your way around. Once you have been with us a little while, you will also have the opportunity be a buddy to a new, and often nervous client!

Getting to Know the Facilities

When you arrive at The Provy, you will be greeted by one of our counsellors and a member of the support team who will complete your admission and induction. This will be finalised by our Doctor. Whilst you are being inducted your bags will be taken to your bedroom for you.

All clients who attend a treatment programme at The Provy are provided with their own room. We’ve found that this takes away a lot of anxiety as in many centres clients may be expected to share bedrooms. The accommodation is very much home from home, and the house is equipped with full wi-fi, flat screen television and all required kitchenware and utensils.

Life at The Provy is about change. When you put the alcohol or the drugs down, change is essential to give yourself the best chance possible of a long term recovery.

Therapy Settings and Rooms

The daily therapy that all clients engage in ranging from, the 1-1 counselling sessions to the fun activities on the beach, from the relapse prevention workshops to the acupuncture sessions, from the self-esteem building sessions to the consequences assignments, from the laughing with your peers to exploring self-defeating behaviour, from music therapy to difficult couple counselling sessions all contribute to making Life at The Provy a life changing experience. It will be a roller coaster of emotions but it may well be the most important 4 weeks of your life.

All our rooms and outside facilities are built with a client-first approach and focus on intuitive usability and ease of access.
