The Importance of Treatment

Gambling websites and casinos have really become aggressive in their marketing, keeping their web users hooked with a range of techniques. These may not work with everyone but for someone who may be struggling with gambling, these tricks make it even harder.

Once a client has registered their details with an online casino, they will often find themselves bombarded with direct marketing. This ploy has been very effecting for the gambling companies to extract as much money as possible from gamblers. Very often, ‘the hook’ is a free bet of some sort. They will often send these texts or emails out at a time when they may have seen a loss or break in activity on the account. Very often, these ‘free bets’ do not allow you to collect winnings if successful but simply put the winnings in your account which has to be gambled with again before being allowed to collect any winnings. Of course, this triggers the gambler, opens the addictive pathways and they are in the vicious circle again.

Getting help for gambling addiction is not the hard part of healing, overcoming the underlying causes is much harder, and this is why you will need help and alternative coping mechanisms. This is where our UK rehab centre can help – we have a team of experienced therapists who will create a tailored programme for you and your needs.

Assessment and Admissions

To ensure you find the right gambling rehab programme, Providence Projects offers a free telephone assessment.

You will discuss, via phone or in person, your gambling habits including:

  • history of your gambling
  • nature of the gambling
  • gambling frequency
  • any patterns
  • any related behaviour
  • any other help you have had with this problem in the past

Once you have completed your free rehabilitation assessment, we will provide recommendations. At this point, we recommend that you discuss our recommendations with your friends or family.

If, after assessment, you decide that you want a place with Providence Projects, arranging admission is a simple and confidential process. Our admissions team are available 24/7 and will arrange the whole admissions process for you. Once a date is agreed upon, you will be sent an admission pack with all the information you require. From here you will begin your journey into recovery from gambling addiction.

Of course, it is natural to be nervous about coming to rehab. Rest assured that, in our experience, you will feel comfortable within a day or two. In many cases, people choose to extend their stay!

When you arrive, you will be greeted by the counselling team, you will be shown around the facility, introduced to your peers and complete your paperwork. Part of this will include your initial treatment plan which will outline the areas that we will be working on initially, based upon your assessment. You will also be given a copy of the timetable with upcoming sessions and activities and when they are taking place. Once you have fully completed your admission, you will immediately commence on the rehab programme.

Gambling Rehab Therapy

Treatment Programme

Our highly experienced team of therapists will work with people who suffer from compulsive gambling, and use a range of therapeutic interventions and techniques to help explore thoughts, behaviours and values. Our gambling addiction treatment programme will enable you to really concentrate on themselves, address their past, and focus on setting goals for the future. At Providence Projects we use one-one counselling, group work, and a range of other activities to ensure a holistic approach.

As well as analysing your addiction in depth, we will also help you explore and address some of the underlying and potentially related issues in both one-one and group sessions. Your plan is bespoke and tailored to your individual needs, but the type of issues that we regularly explore may include:

  • Self esteem
  • Relationships
  • Families
  • Money management
  • Boundaries
  • Anger management
  • Assertiveness
  • Consequences
  • Stress management
  • Relapse prevention
  • Triggers
  • Cravings

At Providence Projects, we have a range of gambling rehab programmes available to suit your needs. Our most popular gambling rehab programme lasts 4 weeks, however other options are on offer. Some individuals are with us for up to 6 months, as per their request for further assistance in healing. We understand that individual circumstances vary, but ideally, the longer you stay in gambling rehab the better.

Our longer-term programmes are intensive, and will enable you to explore in greater depth the underlying issues at play, and to develop the tools and techniques necessary to recover. However, we also understand that there may be financial and practical restraints that may mean that anything more than 4 weeks is not possible. Inform us of any personal issues or financial problems, as they may be of importance to your healing process. Many people who suffer from compulsive gambling have problems making ends meet, although they are earning enough.

Aftercare & Relapse Prevention

The foundations for long term recovery are made during your gambling addiction treatment programme and as part of that programme we work closely with you and your loved ones to agree your aftercare plan. The important element is that the aftercare plan works for you. Aftercare can be anything from a weekly Gamblers Anonymous meeting to an outpatient day programme. It may include 1-1 counselling, group sessions, regular exercise, family sessions and maintaining recovery-based friendships.

Our model is quite unique and the transition from treatment into life after rehab is quite seamless. Clients have practiced the skills here required on a daily basis. In a safe way, they have been exposed to potential risks and triggers and all of the evidence demonstrates that this results in improved self-efficacy. Some clients choose to engage in aftercare with us and do so for a long time whilst others successfully complete and wish to get on with life; both can work and it is about working with the therapy team to come up with a plan that works.

Providence Projects are here for as long as our clients need us.

Support for Families

While gambling addiction, as many others, is a strain on personal mental health and sometimes causes physical harm, it is also a strain on family relationships. If you are a relative, partner or a child of someone suffering from a gambling problem, you also need help with managing the long-term effects of this family-wide problem.

We understand the pressure relatives feel when someone they love is under the control of compulsions. Betting away money that belong not only to themselves is not even the biggest issue. More often, there is worsening of relationships due to stress, keeping secrets, lies. This is where our therapists come in – we can help you find coping mechanisms, as well as understand how the addiction progresses, how the healing will happen.

If you, as a companion, have developed mental health issues due to your loved one’s gambling problem, we can help you, as well as your relationship as a whole.

Why Choose Us?

Providence Projects was set up in 1996 to provide addiction treatment to people from all over the UK. Most commonly, alcohol and drugs were the two most common addictions that we saw.

Over the last 10 years, and since the covid-19 pandemic, we have seen a continual rise in the number of people seeking help for their compulsive gambling. This continues to be the fastest growing addiction that we see.

Providence Projects is a great environment for gambling therapy and treatment. It is not a hospital, but a safe and comfortable place to begin the journey into recovery. Some of our clients have issues with both gambling and alcohol or gambling and drugs, whilst others just have a gambling problem. Either way, we can help.

Our centre is just a few hundred yards from the long beautiful stretch of sandy beach and is the perfect place to concentrate on overcoming your addiction and rebuilding your life. It has worked for thousands of others; it can work for you too.
