Step 1 on our treatment pathway

Primary Care at Providence Projects

Primary care forms the cornerstone of recovery, representing the essential first step on the path to lasting transformation. Delivered within our highly rated CQC-registered rehab centre, this stage brings together professional medical support, structured therapeutic programmes, and a safe, nurturing residential setting. The focus is on restoring stability, uncovering the underlying drivers of addiction, and equipping individuals with the tools required to achieve and sustain long-term sobriety.

Step 2 on our treatment pathway

Secondary Care at Providence Projects

If primary care lays the groundwork, secondary care builds upon it, strengthening recovery and preparing it for real-world application. This stage is intended for those who have completed their initial drug or alcohol rehab programme and are ready to move towards greater independence, while still benefiting from structured therapeutic input and professional support.

Step 3 on our treatment pathway

Sober Living with Providence Projects

Sober living acts as the bridge between structured secondary care and full independence. It provides a safe, flexible environment where individuals can practise the skills they’ve gained in treatment while navigating the realities of daily life. This stage recognises that recovery doesn’t end with alcohol or drug rehab, it’s an ongoing process that benefits from continued support, stability, and connection to a like-minded community.

At Providence Projects, sober living offers exactly this balance: a space to rebuild with confidence, guided by professionals who understand the challenges of early independence and are committed to helping clients move forward with strength and stability.

Step 4 on our treatment pathway

Aftercare & the UKAT Alumni Network

Completing a residential programme is a significant achievement, but it’s only one step on the path of recovery. Aftercare is the crucial next stage, designed to help you maintain progress, manage life’s challenges, and build a fulfilling, sober future. At UKAT, aftercare is personalised, offering ongoing support tailored to your individual needs.

This continued support can include outpatient therapy sessions, relapse prevention check-ins, group workshops, and practical guidance on maintaining healthy routines. The goal is to equip you with the tools and strategies to navigate everyday life confidently and prevent relapse.

Complementing professional aftercare, UKAT’s Alumni Network provides a supportive community of people who have shared the recovery experience. Membership offers connection, encouragement, and opportunities to learn from others on a similar journey.

What Is primary care?

Within addiction treatment, be it for an alcohol addiction, drug addiction or behavioural addiction (such as gambling addiction),  primary care describes the intensive residential stage where clients benefit from continuous support and structured therapeutic input. This early phase is designed to restore stability, both physically and mentally, while creating a safe distance from harmful influences and beginning the work of uncovering the root causes of addiction.

What does our Primary Care Programme include?

Detox

When needed, detox is the first essential step. Guided by qualified medical staff, the process is carefully monitored to manage withdrawal safely and minimise discomfort. Around-the-clock care provides reassurance and protection, allowing clients to stabilise before moving into therapy.

True recovery requires more than physical healing. Our therapeutic framework draws on evidence-based methods, including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), the 12-step approach, group therapy, and individual counselling. Alongside these, clients can access holistic practices, such as mindfulness and yoga, that support emotional balance, resilience, and self-discovery.

Every recovery journey is unique. From the outset, our clinicians and therapists collaborate to design an individualised plan that reflects personal history, challenges, and goals. This ensures each client receives focused, meaningful care that supports long-term success.

At this stage, structure and stability are vital. Providence Projects provides a safe, substance-free environment with guidance, giving clients the clarity and focus needed to take their first steps toward sobriety. As progress is made, primary care naturally leads into secondary care, where the foundations laid in treatment are strengthened and prepared for life after residential rehab.

What Is secondary care?

In addiction recovery, secondary care is the vital bridge between the safety of residential treatment and the challenges of independent living. It’s a stage designed to protect the progress made in primary care while helping clients strengthen their recovery, practise coping strategies, and prepare for the realities of everyday life.

What does our Secondary Care Programme include?

Ongoing therapeutic support

Therapy continues with a focus on applying recovery tools in real-world situations. Group discussions, individual counselling, and practical workshops on areas like stress management, emotional regulation, and coping skills reinforce the foundation built in primary care.

A personalised plan is developed for each client to reduce the risk of relapse. This includes learning to recognise triggers, creating healthy routines, strengthening support systems, and knowing what to do when faced with setbacks.

Clients gain practical tools for independent living, budgeting, cooking, preparing for employment, and managing time effectively, all of which are essential for long-term stability.

Secondary care provides more flexibility than primary care, with clients living in dedicated sober residences. This structure offers a balance of independence and professional support, allowing individuals to practise new skills in a safe environment.

At The Providence Projects, we specialise in extended treatment and relapse prevention. Here, you will find a community that encourages growth, accountability, and resilience, ensuring a smoother transition into life beyond rehab.

Core elements of Our Sober Living Programme

Guidance with housing providers

Our team collaborates with local housing organisations to help you secure safe, stable accommodation suited to your needs. Finding housing during recovery can feel overwhelming, so we’re here to simplify the process and reduce stress.

Where possible, we offer access to dedicated sober housing, ensuring an environment free from drugs and alcohol, essential for protecting your recovery. Many clients are also eligible for housing benefits, helping to ease financial concerns during this period.

Each client receives a personalised aftercare plan that reflects their individual goals and circumstances. These plans often include therapeutic sessions, relapse prevention strategies, and practical advice to promote long-term recovery.

At Providence, we remain by your side for as long as you need us, providing check-ins, resources, and consistent encouragement.

For those who want additional personalised input, private counselling sessions are available. These offer space to process challenges, recognise progress, and keep motivation strong.

Sober living at Providence Projects is far more than accommodation; it’s a structured stepping stone that helps you rebuild with confidence. With the right mix of independence and professional support, you’ll strengthen resilience, regain control, and lay the foundation for lasting reintegration into everyday life.

What's included with the UKAT Alumni Network?

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to begin with primary treatment at Providence Projects?

Secondary care at Providence Projects is designed for individuals who have already completed primary care. This doesn’t necessarily have to be with UKAT; you can join secondary care if you’ve completed a primary programme elsewhere, as long as your recovery progress aligns with the stage and intensity of support provided in secondary care. This ensures everyone is on the same level and able to benefit fully from the programme.

Referring a friend is simple. You can contact UKAT directly via phone or our online enquiry form. Our admissions team will guide you through the process, discuss the best programme for your friend, and support them every step of the way, from initial assessment to entry into treatment. Referrals can be made by the individual themselves, a family member, or a friend.

Yes. Access to the UKAT Alumni Network is available to anyone who has completed a residential programme with us, regardless of whether they continue with secondary care. Joining the Alumni Network provides ongoing support, peer connections, mentorship opportunities, and access to workshops and events designed to help maintain long-term recovery.
