Josh is a Support Worker at Providence Projects, providing practical and emotional support to individuals recovering from addiction and related challenges. He helps create a safe, therapeutic environment, encourages engagement with treatment and supports clients in developing the skills and confidence needed for long-term recovery. He works closely with colleagues to provide person-centred care tailored to each individual’s needs.
He holds Level 2 and Level 3 qualifications in Counselling Skills and Counselling Studies and is currently working towards a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling. His training has strengthened his understanding of human behaviour, communication and therapeutic relationships, supporting his empathetic and person-centred approach.
Having been part of the Providence Projects team for two years, he has gained experience supporting individuals at different stages of recovery. He has also experienced treatment at Providence himself, giving him a personal understanding of the challenges involved in recovery. This lived experience has strengthened his commitment to helping others find hope, rebuild their lives and make lasting changes.
His professional interests include addiction recovery, mental health, counselling, personal development and resilience. He is particularly interested in applying counselling skills within support work to develop strong therapeutic relationships and contribute to positive treatment outcomes.
Outside of work, he is a keen football and boxing fan. A lifelong Southampton supporter, he jokes that he was simply “a little too good” to make it as a professional footballer. He also admires the discipline and dedication of boxing, although his own boxing career never quite took off, largely due to his appreciation for keeping all his teeth.
He is passionate about helping people recognise their potential and believes that the right support at the right time can make a significant difference during recovery. He is committed to treating every client with dignity, respect and compassion and finds it particularly rewarding to see individuals grow in confidence and work towards healthier, more fulfilling lives.
